5 - Eturia to Bollington - Trent and Mersey Canal, Macclesfield Canal.

Tuesday 23rd April 2013.

07:15 start for Etruria, a bit late to get the first passage through the Harecastle Tunnel! Arrived at Tunnel at 08:20, boat already in going north, so we were hurriedly bundled in and  took of in pursuit. We caught up with the other boat near the Kidsgrove portal, exiting at 08:50. We had by now booked the Standedge Tunnel, seeing as the Huddersfield Narrow had just reopened after gate collapse on Diggle Flight. So it was up the Macclesfield Canal. Hardly any traffic. Arrived Bosley Bottom at 12:45 and exited Top Lock at 14:25, passed one boat going down. Had a quick chat with Phil Ruston, who espied us going passed his house. Passed through Royal Oak Swing Bridge at 15:10.  Single handed boater had been waiting the other side so came through in same bridge swing (nice traffic jam!) Sad to note the Fools Nook pub was shut. Broadhurst Swing Bridge was playing up, pintail knackered. Had to moor boat up on the offside, so we could both push / bounce the bridge into movement. Arrived at Bollington at 18:00. All moorings on the embankment taken apart from last crap one on the curve. Neither of the nearby Robbo's pubs were doing food, so we repaired to the rather excellent Briscola Italian.
