The Tuesday Night Club on Tour
Tour 2010
9 - Corbie to Feuilleres, Canal de la Somme.
Saturday 5th June 2010
We had an early start at 07:30, with the aim of clearing the Somme that night. Another hot day, thank goodness for the wheelhouse, for some shade. We knew we would get caught by the Sommelier operated Eclusier Vaux lift bridge, so tried out a shady tree mooring, short of the lift bridge, for lunch (12:45-13:50). Yet again we were amazed at the amount of Cuckoos in this area. We arrived at the Feuillères lift bridge (the "entrance" point to the council operated Somme navigation). We had to fone up for a Sommelier, who was some while arriving. He had, what we thought, was problems with the barriers, one was bent. After a couple of failed attempts 9where a small car managed to squeeze around the barriers!) we moored back up and went to "talk" to the Sommelier. As far as we could fathom out, the bridge had stuck due to over expansion, in the heat and that it would be OK in the morning, once it had cooled down. We were a bit miffed, as the bar was not doing food on a Sat night! and all night we were kept awake by the rather noisy coypu, announcing their territory, on the bank opposite. The noise was like a cross between a hysterical sheep and mating foxes, at least this noise distracted us from the TGV/Eurostar railway line that passes over the canal and the River Somme, just downstream of the bridge.
Looking back at Lock No9 Frise. Somme Canal.
