April 2007
9 - Digby Bridge to Ballycommon - Grand Canal Dublin and Shannon Lines.
Sunday 8th April 2007
It was rather a late start (09:40), but then it was Easter Sunday! Nothing of note all the way to Lowtown. We stopped at Lowtown Marina for diesel
(86.5c/l 58p/l), we could have easily got back to the Shannon, but this oasis needs patronising for them to continue to supply diesel. We passed a couple of boats going the other way, we knew that people were about, for there had been a rally at Edenderry Basin over Easter.
At 17:15 the fortunately UP Bord Na Mona lift bridge was passed and we arrived on the Daingean mooring at 18:15. An investigation rumoured that the Blackthorn was
doing food, sadly this proved incorrect, so after a pint of Guinness we went back to the handy Centra for a spot of shopping.
Further investigation found that Daingean had a fish and chip stand...this was in a small hut, with no advertising, beside the Gaelic Bar
and could easily be missed. Upon finishing our fish and chips Neil announced that we should go on, so at 19:30 we pulled off again and had a nice evening cruise in the half light arriving at the
unoccupied (but short!) wharf at Ballycommon (21:05), ready for a mornings start back down the rest of the Grand Canal.
