Tour 2007
April 2007
10 - Ballycommon to Shannon Bridge - Grand Canal Shannon Line and Shannon Navigation.
Monday 9th April 2007
It was a 08:15 start from Ballycommon, we passed through Tullamore at 10:30. After a good
day on the Grand were out onto the Shannon at 18:10. the only locky that came out was Alan Wynne at Belmont Double No
33. He told us about some unstable bank below, marked with tape, warning us to go very slowly past.
Just below Belmont double Lock was a load of floating reed stalks and a
photographer. We remarked that he could not see many moving boats to
photograph...his reply was " I was trying to take a picture of the pattern
of reeds...then some f***er comes past in a boat!"
There was one boat moored up in the old navigation cut below Shannon Bridge, so we decided to join it (19:40). As it happened there was one
mooring spot left on the old inset bit of the wharf. So it was a burger in
"Supermac's" then a pint in Kileen's. We left when Mr Breeze, the guitarist entertainment arrived...sorry Mr Breeze, but we were knackered!
