38 - Market Drayton to Brewood, Shropshire Union Canal.

Wednesday 7th August 2003.

Julian E had booked a taxi the past evening to take him to Shrewsbury railway station. He went up to meet the taxi at around 08:30. Just after 09:00 he mobiled us to say he got to Shrewsbury OK, so Neil and Martin started off.
10:30 saw us at the top of the Tyrley Flight, nice to report that the pretty lock cottage at that time was NOT scaffold clad and in a state of being modernised, which is normally the case when we have seen it in the past.
There was a stop in Wheaton Aston between 16:20 and 17:30 for the customary VERY cheap diesel at Turner's Garage, as well as some Morris's oil and propshaft grease, which they now stock. Also a water stop, which included a plumbed in shower for both crew members!
At 19:50 we stopped for the night at Brewood, at our "normal" spot, not far beyond Countywide Cruisers. This spot is quieter than between the bridges, but has the pain of a shelf about a foot below the surface. We used the inner tube fitted tyre fenders to space the boat away from the shelf. That evening we did a spot of shopping in the local Spar and got a Chinese takeaway from Wong's.
