The Tuesday Night Club on Tour
Tour 2002
39 - Brewood to Black Country Museum, Shropshire Union Canal, Staffs and Worcs Canal and BCN Main Line.
8th August 2002.
07:45 start from Brewood, a bright but dewy morning. No traffic,
well not our way, for the entire day. We intended to get onto the BCN and Meet
Andrew Goodland at the Black Country Museum moorings.
At 09:25 we were passing out of Autherley Stop Lock, onto the connecting section
of the Staffs and Worcs Canal, to Aldersley Junction, where the Wolverhampton 21
Flight of locks take you up to the BCN Main Lines. We turned left at Aldersley
Junction at 09:35 and had the Wolverhampton 21 to our selves, well in our
direction, a handful of boats were passed coming down.
Leisurely amble up the flight, reaching the top at 12:40. Just before Deepfields
Junction (pass 13:40) there were some kids messing about under Bridge 72 B, some
half hearted stone flinging was repelled by pointing the camera at them.
At Factory Junction we turned off right, missing the many young canoeists from
the water sports centre, just before the three Factory Locks down to the
Birmingham Level. Staying on the Wolverhampton Level we passed through Tipton
Green and went straight on at Tipton Junction (14:25), into the secure Black
Country Museum moorings. We winded first, then reversed back onto the innermost
available towpath mooring (14:35)
That afternoon we did the Dudley Canal Trust trip into the tunnels. In the
evening Andrew came over in the Beekymobile and gave us a guided tour of
Bilston. We tried the excellent Park Inn, the Holden's Brewery tap, then met up
with Kevin Maslin in the Great Western in Wolverhampton.
Brewood Bridge No 14. This section between the two bridges in Brewood are the
deep popular visitor moorings, but we have found them noisy in the past.
