Tour 2013
3 - Birmingham to Cheddleton - BCN, Staffs and Worcs Canal, Trent and Mersey Canal, Caldon Canal.
Sunday 15th April 2013
07:50 departure from Brum. Straight through on the New Main Line. Factory Top Lock at 09:40. Wolverhampton 21 Top at 11:25. Soon became apparent we were following 3 boats down. Aldersley Junction at 14:30. Carried on up the Staffs and Worcs. Passed Autherley at 14:45. Now no boats in front. Carried to to Penkridge, stopping below Penkridge Lock No 38 (moorings packed above). Meal and pint in The Boat. OK, but quiet and only just "done up".
Monday 16th April 2013
TB left early and NA carried on solo. Start 09:05. Great Heywood Junction 13:10. Went up the Trent and Mersey, a plan was developing! Stone Bottom Lock at 17:00, Top of Stone at 18:00. Top of Meaford at 18:55. Stopped for the night at Barlaston (moorings packed out) at 19:30. Shop in surprisingly large Spar and eat on board.
Tuesday 17th April 2013
Barlaston visitor moorings 07:20. Start Caldon canal at 10:15. No problem all the way through Stoke. Lots of new housing development, new building beside Planet Lock. Passed a boater that said Ivy House Lift Bridge was playing up and gave CaRT reset tip - push down Up and Down buttons together for 30 seconds. Lift bridge no problem for NA, controls now duplicated on towpath side. Did the two lift bridges (Hydraulic winder non towpath side) by getting of bow / stern. Gave up for the night at Cheddleton, on deep towpath mooring spot between Bridges 40 and 41.
