Irish Summer Tour 2007
32 - Naan Island to Swan Island - Upper Lough Erne and Shannon Erne Waterway.
Monday 22nd July 2007
Today was our last full day and we only had the other routes and
jetties to check out in Upper Lough Erne. Departure was at 09:10 and we headed back round Naan Island West, to retrace our route the following evening, between Tonregee and Deal Islands, then round the top of Inishleague, following the northerly route round the shore of the lough. After passing to the landward side of Montjoy and Edergole Islands, we then continued through the well markered and supposedly shallow course to the north of Inish
Corkish Island.
Next we passed between Inishore and Geddagh Islands, the did a twirl round the Share Holiday Village moorings, to check these out (10:25). From here we headed to the Lady Craigavon Bridge, passing close to the Corradillar jetty moorings. We passed to the north of Inishrath, the Hare Krishna Island, with the Derryrad jetty on the north shore above this point (10:25). Continuing along the north east side of the lough we past Dernish Island with its tatty jetty (not actually attached to the island), then the main route out of the bottom of the lough, passing the Crom Castle visitor moorings at 11:35, and taking the "middle" less well used route of the River Erne, between Inishfendra and Galloon Island.
Having already visited Belturbet, and short of time we headed back to the Shannon - Erne Waterway via Foalies Cut, hitting the SEW at 12:40. Passing Ballyconnell at 15:00, we checked out the Swan Island Moorings on Lake Garadice. The Swan
Island Farm Centre was doing food, so we stopped (17:30) and booked a table for 19:00. It was a rather busy venue, with staff rushing about, but OK fare, washed done by - you guessed it, a pint of Guinness.
