Irish Summer Tour 2007
14 - Carlow to Monasterevin - River Barrow Navigation and Grand Canal Barrow Line.
Wednesday 4th July 2007
A lateish start at 10:00. At 14:00 we were at Athy and decided to continue up the river to the new pontoon below the Bridge. After half an hour shopping stop and investigation of this side of Athy we headed back to Lock No 28 and the Barrow Line of the Grand Canal. This involved an interesting sweep round, against the current, in front of the weir. Martin Clark was dropped off under the horse bridge to record the event and set the lock (14:50). That night we stopped at 19:10, below Lock 24 in Monasterevin, in the evening we wandered around Monasterevin and ended up in the (not well signposted) Seeta Indian restaurant above Finlay's pub.
There is quite a shoal down stream from the exit of the River Grease (we found
it on the way down!) River Barrow Navigation.
