The Tuesday Night Club on Tour
Tour 2007
16 - Belturbet to Riversdale Marina Ballinamore - River Erne and Shannon-Erne Waterway.
Sunday 15th April 2007
We only had to get back to Riversdale that night, so it was an late start (09:35) upstream to the head of navigation. Unfortunately the cruiser was still right at the end of the mooring pontoon. We got
our pictures of Earnest right up to the "End of Navigation" marker...but Neil made total pigs-ear of extracting Earnest.
Fortunately Peter was at the front and fended Earnest off the side of the cruiser. There was no way Earnest would go round out side
the markers, so there was rather a lot of thrashing to get Earnest in line with the flow, then go backwards, treading water, back past two of the centre markers. Neil was still worried about getting the business
end of Earnest out of deep water, so it was an awkward wind to get the bow to come round out of channel, with the stern still in the deep water, which was where the flow was. Eventually
Earnest was winded, without any more contact with the bottom. (09:55) After this it was an uneventful trip back to Ballinamore.
We entered Foalies Cut and took the quick passage back to the SEW, which we started at 10:45. We took the detour round Church Island when going across
Garadice Lough, to take a look at the Swan Island Farm moorings.
At 16:30 we arrived for the first time at Riversdale. Graham was about and we filled with diesel (84c/l - 57p/l) and then put Earnest on its
allotted berth. After settling up with Graham we refused! a lift to the pub as we had food to eat up on board.
The next day Graham kindly dropped us off at Dromod station and we got the 10:00 train to Dublin (Sligo Line) arriving at 12:00. after a pint in Porterhouse we decided to go round the
National Museum...but it was closed on a Monday. We got the 747 bus to the airport around 18:00 and then hung around until our booked 21:15 flight to Heathrow.
