7 - Rugeley to Trentham, Trent and Mersey Canal.

Having been in touch with Robin Nicholson on NB Maple, we were trying to
arrange an evening meet. This was supposed to be Stone, so we had a late start at 11:50. It soon became apparent from Robin's now
legendary progress that this was not to be, so we got into top gear. Great Hayward Junction was
passed at 13:10. We eventually were alerted to the approaching NB Maple by two likely lads on mountain bikes, lock wheeling between Aston and Sandon
Locks!!!
Maple soon shot round the next corner and we stopped stern to stern for a brief chat. In fact Maple got to Bridge 62, Rugeley that night, then to
Hawkesbury the next night. We met Nigel on NBDB Ensabee going back up Stone flight to his moorings at Roger Fullers. Out of Stone Flight at 18:15 and
carried on enjoying a pleasant evening and the extra hour of daylight.
18:50 we were at the top of Meaford Flight. Much new twiddley housing development at the bottom of the flight. After a few
phone calls we found out that the Plume Of Feathers at Trentham Bridge No 103 was doing food up to
21:00, so we tied up at 19:30, a fair way from the noisy road and level crossing. The
Plum Of Feathers was a flop, no hand pumped beer and a "medium" steak that could only be described as cremated.
