46 - Gloucester to Purton. Gloucester and Sharpness Canal.

Saturday 17th August 2002

We shoved off at 09:50 and had good run down to Saul Junction. On the way we passed NB Frogmoore III, the owners of John Chapman's boat NB Frogmoore II. We had been looking out for NB Stokie, to get some diesel, but we did no know where John and Brioni moored, so got diesel at Adulac between 11:30 and 11:45. It was to be an afternoon passage on Monday down the Severn Estuary to Portishead, so we just went to that magical place - Purton that afternoon, getting there at 12:55.
In the afternoon there was the inevitable walk along the foreshore to see the remains of all the old barges, beached to help stop erosion. That evening Julian Tether came out to meet us and go to that special pub - the Berkley Arms at Purton, overlooking the Severn Estuary. We did NOT manage to persuade Julian to do the Severn Estuary with us!
