44 - Windmill End to Kidderminster. Dudley No 2/1 Canals, Stourbridge Canal and Staffs and Worcs Canal.

Tuesday 13th August 2002

08:15 start from Windmill End. Mooring pin not necessary, the fake "Mooring Wardens" did not return! Decided to amble down the Dudley No2 Canal to Hawne Basin, so Martin could experience this.
Hawne Basin at 09:40 and back to Windmill End at 10:50. It was now exit the BCN via the Dudley No1 Canal and Stourbridge. Blowers Green Top at 11:454, Delph Flight Top at 12:30, Delph Bottom at 13:45, Stourbridge Flight Top at 14:25, Bottom at 17:20. We gave up for the night in a previous stop place that we knew was deep, just below Newtown Bridge. That night we ate in and practiced the age old art of Fray Bentos Tinned pies.

Wednesday 14th August 2002

Late start at 11:00. We got to Stourton Junction at 11:50 and turned left down the Staffs and Worcs Canal, with the idea of going down to Sharpness and back up the Worcester and Birmingham Canal. As we passed the outskirts of Kidderminster we were surprised that the newish Sainsbury's was closed........later we found out this was due to expansion to combat the new, more centrally placed Tesco.
We stopped on the offside Visitor Mooring, just above Kidderminster Town Lock (16:45), not the most salubrious of places, but handy for the Severn Valley Railway that we were visiting the next morning. That evening we went down into town and visited the new Tesco's for a cheap meal and provisioning.
