33 - Stone to Penkridge, Trent and Mersey Canal and Staffs and Worcs Canal.

Tuesday 30th July 2002.

Another early start sponsored by Linda, after the early morning dog walk at 07:20. Rather a dull and still morning. The floral display beside Newcastle Road Lock No 29 was as good as ever. Stone seems to have changed very little of the time we have cruised the canal system. Joule's disused brewery buildings have been preserved and were going through a face lift as a new use is found for them. The old Hospital has been turned into smart apartments and a new Italian restaurant has sprung up beside the Star pub.
Great Haywood Junction was reached at 12:15 and we turned right, under the spindly towpath bridge, onto the Staffs and Worcs Canal. As ever there were many boats moored on the towpath in Tixall Wide. The Willow tree cull, beside the towpath did not seem as extensive as feared. that night we moored up  at 16:25 in Penkridge. It was busy in Penkridge and we just managed to get a rather prone spot just before Bridge No 85. Linda went shopping and Neil did some boaty things. That night we ate out.
