The Tuesday Night Club on Tour
Tour 2002
29 - Broken Cross to Rode Heath, Trent and Mersey Canal.
Friday 26th July 2002.
Another lazy start at 08:25. In the first of the salt extraction
off line subsidence lagoons half an old wooden narrowboat had been returned to
the cleared narrowboat graveyard. In the second lagoon we spotted mike and Su
Poole's NB Cutworks moored up, they were about and signalled that they were
about to turn round and follow us up to Middlewich.
As usual, a fair amount of waiting at Middlewich, which gave us time for a chat
with Mike and Su. They were stopping in the town so we shared the big lock with
an Anglo Welsh boat. Yet more waiting at the Junction, then finally we carried
on the T&M main line through King's Lock No71.
Not too many boats about from now on and a pleasant assent of the Wheelock
"Heartbreak Hill" double locks. These we started at 15:10. We stopped
for the night above Thurlwood Lock No 53 (17:45). As was the norm for many
years, we went to one of our old haunts, the Broughton Arms. It was rather
packed, on this nice hot evening, so got a rather grot bench in the car
park.
