31 - Fotheringhay to Irthlingborough - River Nene.
Saturday 28th July 2001
Mr E did his last mega blow out breaky, as he was leaving us at Upper Barnwell
Lock.......God! we did not need it! Eventually we started off at 09.15. For the
Nene it was almost busy. We dropped Julian E off at Upper Barnwell Lock. We
caught him coming back out of the “Old Mill” Restaurant with a pint, after
he had ordered a taxi to the station!
After this we spent the rest of the day
following up a pair of narrowboats. To start with we dropped the water for them
but after a while we gave up and let them raise the bottom Guillotine.
Eventually we came out of Irthlingborough Lock to stop for the night on the “Doc
Martens” piled VM. The pair of boats who we had been following had also
stopped and breasted up to give us room. We ran out our long water hose and just
had enough to plumb ourselves into the new water / pump out point. Every one had
showers during this. We ate in and had a Linda curry. Apparently shore based
showers are available at the nearby sports centre.
