2 - Bedworth to Bodymoor Heath, Coventry Canal and Birmingham and Fazeley Canal.

Sunday 21st March 2004

We started off from below Bridge No 16 at 09:20. Still rather blustery, but with some blue bits amongst the showers. 11:40, top of Atherstone, bottom at 13:30. One Canaltime boat marooned in the middle of the flight, going up, but they soon perked up and went into our vacated lock. At Glascote a S M Hudson NB was wedged across the cut, but managed to grind it's way into the basin by the time we arrived. Martin caught a rather large rug round the prop in Glascote top, so Neil had to rescue it. Another intrepid Canaltime boat coming up Glascote, this time staffed by actual boaters! Martin managed to find the sticky out bit on the OS of the bridge before Fazeley Junction (17:00)...........BOING!..........
We decided to go through the Curdworth lock beyond the Dog-In-The-Doublet pub, seeing as there was not exactly a lot of water in that pound. We stopped on the end of the lock waiting area above - 18:00 (naughty naughty), but still found the bottom. Helped another boat down, seeing as they wanted to moor there! (in fact they moored just below) . The pub still as good as ever, welcoming real fire, reasonably priced OK food and OK London Pride.
